Made a last minute appearance at the Paramount Hotel during a weekend getaway. The location was unbeatable. Had a blast exploring downtown and the surrounding areas. Everything was within walking distance. The parking garage across the street was also reasonably priced. The room itself could not be better. It was clean, comfortable and had an excellent view of the city. The sixth floor does have it’s advantages. Perhaps the tallest hotel I’ve stayed in my lifetime.

Exceeded expectations! After a lot of research, we decided on the Paramount and we are thrilled with our choice! The staff was absolutely lovely and helped us celebrate our anniversary with a room upgrade AND a room amenity, including Prosecco and chocolate. We don’t always feel special at hotels because sometimes we think we are just perceived as young. It felt amazing and almost made me cry to feel like a valued guest. We got a beautiful corner view with a lovely jacuzzi tub. The pillows were amazing! Everything was clean and nice and we felt super welcome. It was right in the heart of downtown without feeling busy or chaotic. Have I mentioned the extremely reasonable price?? Thank you so much!

This was our first stay at the Paramount and will not be our last. The hotel was clean and easily accessible. Staff was super nice, friendly and informative. The hotel was quiet, almost felt like we were the only ones there. we had a balcony room and it was so nice to just sit out there in the morning and get some fresh air =) . We also had drinks and dinner at their restaurant, Swine Whiskey Bar, and OMG some of the yummiest drinks in Portland! Food was also really good. Definitely would stay here again!

Such a fun hotel. A night at Doug Fir with a concert, and then a stay at the Jupiter, is just a great time. Condom on the pillow and chalk to write on the wall. Great location, comfy beds, nice staff, clean rooms, great art. It’s worth every penny.

We had a great time at this fantastic hotel. The highlight was a delightful sunset walk around the neighborhood. They are 420 friendly and have a place in the floor to smoke. The potatoes in the bar downstairs may be the best things I’ve ever eaten. Cocktails are top notch, and coffee rocks.

Prior to checking in at the Jupiter, we were having a horrible day. The staff, artsy decor and all around vibe helped us rebound and change the mood and outcome of our Portland excursion. I definitely recommend it and w kids we brought loved it, so I’d definitely say it’s teenager friendly. They have outdoor areas on every floor to sit and chill and take beautiful pics of the city. We loved it!!!

Wow, this place is fantastic. Had a long wait to be seated.. but so worth it in the end. Definitely the best breakfast I’ve ever eaten. Tasty cocktails, good portions, friendly service. They have a very extensive menu with rotating specials and every single thing we ordered was delicious. Good thing this restaurant isn’t near my house – I’d go here as often as possible if I could.

It’s been a few years since I was last at Mother’s, but they still have the amazing quality and wonderful service that helps make my day. I made reservations for three using their website for a Thursday morning but, as I had a train to catch, I asked if they could seat us a bit earlier. The host was able to accommodate our party.
The new dining area is very spacious and the windows bring in so much light. Our meal arrived very quickly. While I feel like the portion size was smaller than in the past, this was a blessing as they didn’t advertise half orders on the menu.
Mother’s continues to be a wonderful restaurant and I highly recommend it.
I hear brunch reservations tend to get scooped up a week in advance!

Higgins Restaurant has a deserved reputation for fine dining, BUT when we arrived for our reservation for four people, our preferred tables had just been given to others. We had gone to the restaurant a week in advance to select specific tables. We identified two tables for our four diners. Two days before, we confirmed the tables had been identified and would be held for our 6:30 PM RES. When we arrived AT 6:15, we were told that one of the owners (not Greg Higgins) made the decision to give one table to a party of six and the other to a party of four. They had just started their meals. Greg Higgins is a wonderful chef and respected in our community. His partner and managers are the pits. I’m not going back.

Post Covid review

I went to Higgins Piggins on the deck at the historical society museum. You can make reservations online which I recommend.

The food was excellent. Two of us got the salmon and one got the ravioli and the other a steak. We also brought our own wine and the corkage fee was modest.

It was one of the best dinners I’ve had since the pandemic and I highly suggest that you go while the weather is beautiful.

Very good food. One of the pioneers of the “farm to table” movement. Our pasta and meat dishes were excellent and the drinks were great. Highly recommended.

I just want to start this review with a huge shout-out to Nate. Having never been to Portland, my partner and I were very hesitant to just walk into any restaurant but we caught them at a slow moment and Nate took the time to show us all that the social had to offer. Oh man, and what it had to offer was awesome! The food was sublime, we pinged and then we ponged. Overall I think that if I lived in Portland, this would be my regular hang out spot. Thank you for making the first leg of my journey one for the books Nate 💓

Bold flavors and some unique options. Everything that I have tried has been tasty, some items are incredibly delicious. There are many options for vegetarians or other dietary accommodations. I have been here a few times and was always very pleased! The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. I have had the Alaskan True Cod and Cedar Plank Salmon and both did not disappoint. I recommend to have the sauces on the side because I thought the fish (as is) were full of flavor and did not need the sauce!
We sat inside once and it was really cozy. But I really enjoyed sitting outside on a nice evening. The iron chairs/table and outside set-up reminds me of dining in France 🙂

We went to JFC last night for our anniversary. It was our first time and it did not disappoint. It is beautiful and charming inside. Our food was very tasty. Definitely try the crab/bay shrimp cakes. They were my favorite part of the meal. Our server, Carla, was also amazing. She was attentive and friendly. The food is more than I can afford, but it’s great as a special occasion and I would love to go back. My only complaint would be that my green beans were JUST slightly undercooked and still pretty crunchy. Amazing flavor though.

So typically I write great reviews when I go to a great restaurant. Since it was my first time going to Portland we wanted to go somewhere which we had been told had great service n great food. Well besides the food being good. As a paying customer if I have to go to the restroom I shouldn’t be going to an outside restroom when there clearly is an indoor restroom. This was the restroom the staff instructed me to go to. Now I don’t ever use the race card but as an African American please explain this logic to me. Why was I instructed to go to the restroom outside? This is where I give 1 star for service. Management take what you want from it, but this is 100 percent unacceptable.

Had the coconut curry. It was equally as good as having curry in Thailand. The depth of flavor was amazing. We thought level 4 spicy would be hotter but overall cannot complain. We also tried a Banh Mi which was also excellent. The pork was juicy and flavorful and there was a perfect balance of mayo and fresh veggies. Will definitely be back next time we visit Portland. We also had a cocktail and a raspberry sour which was super fruity and not overly sour.

Lovely! Well air conditioned, good food, lovely service. Understanding service staff, and the manager/owner is at very least Irish and honestly absolutely delightful. A friend recommended this place and what a great recommendation. I ordered the Winter Squash White Cast Iron Pizza, and I’ve never enjoyed a pizza so much. I know …. I know…. A pizza? First, the crust was so good. I think using the cast iron skillet adds some extra “oomph” and texture (I could have eaten the crust by itself), and adding a little sharp cheese (Asiago?) around the edges made me want to eat even more! Second, the squash/fennel/beets were cooked just right, and the rosemary ricotta (while IMHO could have used just a tich more rosemary because I LOVE rosemary, sorry) balanced the overall flavoring. I’m assuming it was Nate Tilden, the owner, who was cooking when I picked up my order. He seemed like a genuinely good guy with a great vibe. I look forward to eating at this place when this whole COVID situation is over and the restaurant opens full time. But in the meantime, I’ll definitely be ordering more from this gem of a place.

This pizza restaurant was once a part of the Merchant Hotel which hosted a bevy of nefarious endeavors, such as mobsters and entrepreneurs of questionable character. One unfortunate victim was Nina (pronounced “Nigh-na”) who was forced to be a “working woman”. When missionaries tried to clean-up the Merchant Hotel, they enlisted Nina as a witness to rat-out the ringleaders in exchange for her freedom. Nina reportedly cooperated by handing over several names and shortly afterwards was found at the bottom of an elevator shaft. Today, Nina still walks the halls, and sometimes can be seen sitting on the bench in the back corner of the restaurant in a tiny room, which once housed the elevator. She has become the resident ghost for over 100 years.

But that is only the beginning of the hauntings at the Old Town Pizzeria.

If you walk to the basement and work your way through the maze, you will enter the area notoriously known as “The Shanghai Tunnels”. This is where over-imbibed men were tricked to stand on a certain section of the floor, which had a hatch that sprung downward, sending the men on their new career path of sailor. When they fell below into the tunnels, they were kidnapped and carried away to the waiting ships where they set sail on an enslaved journey they never expected.

Many men never survived the journey and it’s said they quickly returned to the last location they remember – or what is now Old Town Pizza.

So if you’re looking for a good ghost story and maybe some pizza this should be the perfect place to go.

Came in kind of early on the happy hour a little bit after 3:00. Had the burger with fries and it was good! The stars subtracted is for the outrageous price on beers on tap, if you’re taking a dollar off for happy hour and the base price is eight bucks for nothing special tap beers something is seriously wrong!
You can:
Give your happy hour customers the options for a $4-5 can.
Reduce your beer prices by three dollars for tap beer on happy hour.
I really hate to go on like this but i’m not
I’m not going to get another beer if I’m coming in to eat on a happy hour and having to pay eight plus dollars + tip on a happy hour for alcohol!

The drinks were pretty decent and the food was good. The fish and chips we got were excellent- they had a great crisp to them and the sauce was flavorful and zesty. The Cobb salad was Ok… the chicken was reminiscent of packaged chicken I could buy at a store. I enjoyed my Huckleberry Daisy it was delicious! My hubby got a Wild Jito – which we thought was pretty good – very fresh tasting but I liked mine better. We sat outside and their patio area was nice but right directly on a busy street so it was rather loud at times, as lots of motorcycles and cars are next to you. Our service was slow, maybe because we were outside? Overall it was good food and I enjoyed it enough to go back if I’m in that area again.

Ooof basement bartenders are so rude! I get all you want to do is pour beer and call yourself a bartender, but at least don’t ask your customers “what’s in that drink?”before I even finish my sentence. A Manhattan? Embarrassing for such an upscale looking venue. Is the upstairs and downstairs two different spaces? If so, I’d understand the difference in service knowledge. But otherwise, yikes.

I understand Covid-19 has had an impact on business. Remember when Doug Fir served great drinks and had great food?

The place is now servicing $10 drinks out of plastic drink cups and serving on sliced pizza. The shows are sold out and even if people leave you can’t get in to venue.

The place is sloppy and cheap now. Serve the same food and drinks somewhere else and the place would fail. Sloppy food Sloppy service. It’s not the same. You can go next door and get pizza and a drink served in a plastic cup for half.

They let Covid-19 be reason to have poor quality all around. A travesty of It’s former self.

Awesome pizza, local beer, and great vibe. It had uncovered outdoor seating. It was raining, so we sat inside. Great atmosphere and was playing 80s music! The pizza was fancy and delicious. I thought the prices were very reasonable. All the staff were just lovely. I could not have been happier we choose this place! 🍕 🧡

Come to Oven and Shaker for awesome pizza and beer, the highlight of this charming wood fired pizzeria.

Enjoy the ambience of this wonderful bar and bistro. There is a great drink selection, thus the word “Shaker” in the name. The beer selection is also excellent. I recommend the German style Pilsner as my favorite. However, the most popular beer is the Hazy Pale Ale which has flavor notes of grapefruit. The wood fired pizza is delicious. Ask for Lucy to be your server, and she will take amazing care of you. Highly recommended when in downtown Portland!

The smell of the wood fire oven, the lighting, and decor all work together to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff are hip and have an amiable personality similar to the space. The menu is simple but replete with choices, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free. I was torn between their maple pig or fennel diavolo pizza and ended up going with the goat cheese pizza the server shared as her personal favorite. The gluten free crust was fantastic, with a little stretch and chew reminiscent of a classic pizza crust. The kale, onion, and artichoke paired well with the fresh goat cheese. Definitely recommend.

What a wonderful place! Affordable and friendliness are plentiful at Ground Kontrol. I highly recommend this fabulous place for anyone looking for some games and beverages. I especially enjoyed the pinball selection and the very friendly staff working diligently to maintain them. I didn’t try any food but I can speak the truth by saying that this place is a MUST SEE!!!!!

I’ve been here a few times, always had a few beers and played a few games. I was told recently they had great food. So I decided to get one of their vegan hot dogs and it was amazing. I’m the type to buy too much food while being out of town, so two days later I come back to this hotdog after a shift. The bun is not soggy. It’s held up amazingly. Please buy their food. You will not be disappointed.

It’s clean, great atmosphere and good staff for sure. The games work and are clean! That’s great and rare.

Sadly the games are pretty limited and old. Nothing new and unique. No physical games like pool, Foosball, air hockey etc. Wish there was. Otherwise a fun place. Some of the cocktails are cool!

Always a great selection of fun ciders, great food, friendly employees. And awesome indoor and outdoor seating for being with folks. Good sized tables for games, its definitely a destination for table top game groups.

Nov. 7, 2021: young lady taking my order at the counter needs a lesson in manners. Continued to rush me through my order even when I asked her to slow down, and when I explained to her I have a disability, actually snapped, “Well, how would I have known?” They need to hire people who not only understand customer service, but actually like people.

This place is so cool. If you’re a dog fan, come here. I’ve had labradors all of my life, and this felt like coming home. How cool is it to have a Barksey mural on the wall outside?!
