Great place to check out the original Voodoo Donuts. While this wasn’t my first time having their donuts, it’s a quaint location that has monthly and seasonal selections. Just be aware of your surroundings as there’s a reason they have a security guard. However, there are good photo spots in the area.

Incredible donuts at a great price. I am not a huge donut fan, but I tried this place after a friend recommended it to me. I didn’t regret it. Situated in the Old Town area of Downtown Portland, this place is surely worth a visit. There is always a line here, and getting in can take 10-20 minutes. The donuts come in many flavors, and making a choice could be difficult. Just go with anything, and you’ll love it. The area around it is a little shady, but it’s okay. I highly recommend this donut place.

Must visit every single time we are here in Portland. The flavors, the creativity and the magic is felt right away as soon as you walk up to the building. This one is my favorite location. Enjoy all the delicious treats they have to offer. Customer service is exceptional. Thank you for the magical experience Voodoo 💕✨

I liked the sandwich I got so much (egg salad) I bought a loaf of the bread it was made with (pain rustique) to take home. By far some of the best made bread I’ve had. The Oregon Croissant was perfectly sweet and tart. I would have been willing to try any of their sandwiches or delicious pastries. From out of town but will definitely be going back again!

Was pleasantly surprised!
I really love anything laminated dough, and they had so many options!
I loved their escargots, they were so different and delicious! I had the passionfruit one, and they have a raspberry one too.
Their Almond Croissants were amazing as well.
Will definitely be back 🥰

A really good bakery. Their Oregon croissant is delicious. It is crisp outside and filled with delicious berries. It had raspberry, blackberry and blueberry. Other stuff is nice too. Usually their is s line though and it may move slowly you plan for that. Parking is mostly street side. Usually there are spots available.

I loved the color of the blueberry donut! unique ingredients used for such lovely donut. From a distance, the purpish color looks like it is made of grapes ingredient. Tasted cold and too sweet for me. I couldn’t really taste out the bourbon or the basil. It tasted like jelly jam on the top.

I’m visiting from Louisiana. We have great traditional doughnuts there, but I’m currently sitting on the floor of my hotel room having just tasted 4 doughnuts from here and I’m questioning why I haven’t been eating doughnuts right all my life. The Mexican Hot Chocolate, Blueberry Bourbon Basil, Raspberry Rosemary Buttermilk, and Carrot Za’atar Friter. Each one blew my mind! None of them sickeningly sugary or densely made. Each has layers of flavors that go together perfectly and the right textures in the right places. This is art in desert form. PLEASE COME TO NEW ORLEANS, BLUE STAR!!! You’d make a killing there! Thank you for this experience.

Don’t order custom cakes!, you show them a design, they agree to do it with some changes and then you go pick it up and it’s completely different, it’s not even close. it wasn’t like a dinosaur cake or a crazy design. do you expect customers to spread the word and say they did a great job when you intentionally didn’t care, never dealt with unprofessional business like that before. Horrible people. Would recommend Unicorn Bake Shop ✔️

My wife and I came across this place when we were visiting from BC, and boy, did we love it, the pies were amazing and the portion sizes were generous, this is an awesome little place with a lot of character. We’ve been dying to go back but haven’t been able to due to the pandemic, but will definitely be coming back once the borders open back up. Loved this place a lot.

If you can afford the prices, this is a top notch store that has extremely good quality of fresh fruits and vegetables, including pre-packaged. Deli has very good salads, bakery very good variety of pastries, pies, cakes with both large and small portions. I get fresh poke here as well as they have the best quality outside getting it from a good restaurant…or Hawaii! This store is well stocked and has very good variety of imported and local goods. They are a local family owned store and the staff friendly and helpful. High recommend this and their other stores.

I went to this store today on the recommendation of an acquaintance. Such lovely items! Very helpful and friendly staff. I’m in a wheelchair and I felt welcomed and like I could get around easily in the store. It’s very expensive but there are lots of items there that you couldn’t find anywhere else. I would definitely come back, especially if I was looking to get treats. They have a beautiful deli. Their meat department and produce section are outstanding as well.

Zupan’s is like an upscale Whole Foods. Excellent produce, great cheese and bread sections, wide selection of freshly prepared premium meats, and all the little specialty things you can’t find anywhere else. Only place in Portland that has Bellwether Farms whole milk basket hand-dipped ricotta, which has a texture like gelato, and makes superb Italian dishes like lasagna and raviolis. The store also has an extensive handmade pasta section. You definitely get what you pay for! If you are having guests in town and want to make the best dinner possible, this is the place to shop.

My friend and I stopped here this afternoon. This place is a hidden little gem for lovers of bagels, their common companions like lox, and sandwiches. I had the L.E.O. scramble; delightful egg scramble with lox and onions. Don’t worry, they don’t skimp on the salmon at all; I was shocked by the amount of fish in my scramble. Most entres come with delicious potatoes and at least the breakfast comes with rye toast which can be subbed out for their bagels. Highly recommend.
I overheard a customer asking for off menu items, and they were told politely that the menu has been slimmed down due to staffing. That isn’t to say that the menu is small. On the contrary, it still took up a front-and-back of a 8.5×11.
So, whether you’re familiar with this place and coming back after COVID or new to it as you’re rediscovering the city, I would recommend you stop by.

I definitely can’t afford to go here as often as I do, but I do it anyway bc i am terrible with money & avoid looking at my bank account until it’s too late. The staff dresses like the cast of the cult classic 1999-2000 television show Freaks and Geeks, and i adore them all. What better way for me to face the heart of my loneliness, what better way for a poet to engage with her violent, mute fear, than with the world’s best avocado toast and the sad, hilarious unfairness of hospitality work reflected in the beautiful faces of Lovejoy Bakery’s employees?

My wife normally loves CoCo donuts, so picked a dozen premium donuts for her family this morning. Got 3 Boston creams (Bavarian cream) as part of the dozen…but all 3 were not filled with anything. Fairly disappointing. I’ve never actually had that happen before at any donut shop. And when I called to let them know, all they said was “Sorry.” Disappointing customer service this time around. Hopefully next time is better.

I grew up eating authentic NY style bagels on the east coast, and I can tell you Bowery Bagels are legit! I can’t go a week without coming here.
I would respectfully argue that any reviewer claiming these to be “too hard” may not be totally aware of (or perhaps just do not like) what an authentic NY bagel is. They are boiled for a few seconds before they get baked. This seals the crust and gives it that authentic bagel crunch on the outside that bubbles slightly when toasted and develops another layer of flavor, while also remaining chewy on the inside. This is what makes a great bagel. Most store bought and inauthentic bagels are soft because it is simply just enriched wheat flour bread shaped in a circle. Not here. These are quality. I don’t think it’s fair at all to criticize a bagel shop or dock them stars for having authentic NY style bagels, which is what the website even states they do.
Bowery is the best and the staff are lovely too

Clearly anyone who left less than 5 stars doesn’t know how bagels should taste. I got an everything bagel with herb schmear and it was absolutely divine! Perfect level of crunch. I recently moved to the PNW and y’all like your bagels doughy and dense for some reason – these bagels are definitely not that.

EDIT: I have been a long time customer of this bakery for 3 years, I’ve never been disappointed until today.
We arrived at 8 am waited for 30 minutes, and were met by an exasperated staff who was answering phones as we tried to order.
It’s clear nuvrei has shifted their attention to subscription boxes and selling cookie mix ($15 are you serious). We could see people prepping a huge amount of pastries in the kitchen below but their upstairs inventory was DISMAL.
I’m almost convinced the pastries in the case were a day old. I’ve had maybe a dozen or so berry brioches over the years. They’re normally soft and so good! Today the one we ordered actually crunched as I took a bite it was that over baked.
It’s sad when a business who once operated with so much care and attention to detail falls by the wayside but I guess that’s just how it goes sometimes.
I would encourage you to find another local bakery as it’s clear this one is past its prime and doesn’t care to maintain quality for walk up service.

Great spot for croissants and macarons. The croissants are the best in the city – perfectly flaky with a soft and open crumb inside. Not sure if they do dine in (not many chairs/stools around) but great spot for grabbing coffee on the go. Can’t wait to try their pistachio and everything croissants!
